General Sources of Information

 

Alabamians at War - ADAH Public Information Subject Files

The collection contains records which document the participation of Alabamians in the following wars: the Revolutionary War; the War of 1812 and 1st Creek War; the 2nd Creek War; the Texas War for Independence; the Mexican War; the Spanish-American War; World War I; World War II; the Korean War; and the Vietnam War. The information was compiled by ADAH staff from clippings, brochures, reference correspondence, photocopies and typescripts of original documents, and various printed materials in the ADAH collections. Most of the information is about people and events associated with the various wars.

 

Compiled information on the Civil War is found in a separate file - Civil War and Reconstruction - ADAH Public Information Subject Files.

 

Books and Private manuscript materials are described in the ADAH Catalog. Search the catalog to locate specific materials in the department’s collections. Use the general search terms suggested below or other specific names of people, places, or events. The ADAH Catalog also describes state and local government records held by the department, though some of the most significant military collections are listed and linked below.
